LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Geri Ann Glasco of the University of Georgia softball team was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Third Team as a first baseman, it was announced today by the NFCA. Glasco becomes the 12th player in program history to earn All-America honors by the NFCA. In all, the Bulldogs now have 12 players who have earned 20 NFCA All-America accolades.
The Watkinsville, Ga., native helped the Bulldogs to a 40-21 record this season, including a 14-9 mark in the Southeastern Conference and the program’s 12th NCAA Tournament appearance.
A NFCA First Team All-Region selection, Glasco led the team with 19 home runs this season, setting the Georgia freshman home run record. She also set the freshman RBI record with 61 RBI, second most on the team. Her .363 batting average ranked third on the team and included 65 hits and 11 doubles. She also slugged .743 year, had an on-base percentage of .461 and led the team with 34 walks.
Glasco earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Year honors, as well as a spot on the All-Freshman Team, was named the SEC Freshman of the Week three times and became the first player in Georgia history to earn National Player of the Week honors twice in the same season. Against league foes, Glasco led the SEC in home runs with 11 and led all SEC freshmen with 22 RBI. Against South Carolina this year, she tied an SEC record and set a Georgia record with three home runs in a single game.
Glasco joins 53 players from 32 different institutions that were named to one of the three 2013 NFCA Division I All-America teams. Glasco was one of 15 players from the SEC named to an All-American team, the most selections from a single conference.
