ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia senior Emilie Burger has been selected as the SEC Golfer of the Week by the league office in Birmingham, Ala., after she won individual medalist honors at the Bryan National Collegiate Championship last weekend.
Burger played the tournament's last five holes at 4-under to finish at 5-under 211 and secure a one-shot win over Virginia's Brittany Altomare. That finish headline a steady weekend which included Burger's 11th, 12th and 13th par-or-better scores in 24 rounds played during the 2012-13 season.
Burger shot 72-70 over the first 36 holes and entered Sunday's final round in second place on the individual leaderboard, two shots behind Altomare. On a shotgun start, Burger opened at No. 3 and was 1-over on the day through 13 holes. She then birdied No. 16 and posted an eagle-2 at No. 17, holing out with a 9-iron from 125 yards. After the turn, Burger birdied No. 1 to move to 5-under.
The victory was Burger's second individual title of the campaign. She also was the medalist at the Mason Rudolph Championship during the fall. Overall, she notched her fourth top-10 and seventh top-20 performance in eight tournaments this season.
Burger is the third Georgia golfer to earn SEC honors this spring. Rocio Sanchez Lobato was named Golfer of the Week on Feb. 27 after winning the FSU Match-Up Tournament, and Kailey Walsh was tabbed Freshman of the Week last week after finishing fifth at the LSU Golf Classic.
The Bryan National wrapped up Georgia's regular-season slate. The Bulldogs will compete in the SEC Championships on April 19-12 at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
