ATHENS, Ga. - Coming off its third NCEA Reserve Championship, the University of Georgia equestrian team hosted its annual team banquet last Saturday. During the banquet, the team reflected on the 2012-13 season and handed out the team awards.
Highlighting the evening was Carly Anthony and McKenzie Lantz being named then 2012-13 MVPs. An All-American, Anthony concluded her career at Georgia with over 100 wins and over 30 MOP honors. This season, she earned a 14-4 record on the flat with four MOP awards, earning her All-SEC and All-American honors once again. She also rode to a 12-5 record with three MOPs in Equitation Over Fences. For her efforts this season, she was named the SEC Flat Rider of the Month three times and was also named the SEC Rider of the Year in Equitation on the Flat.
Lantz was also a First Team All-American and All-SEC honoree and was also named the SEC Rider of the Year in Reining. A two-time SEC and NCEA Rider of the Month, she finished the 2012-13 season with a 13-3 record that included four MOP honors. She entered the NCEA Championship on a 12-meet win streak and posted a season-best score of 74 against Texas A&M to close out the regular season before posting a 2-0 mark in the SEC Championship.
Rookie of the Year honors went to Rachel Kolb and Sarah Milliren. Kolb finished the season with a 2-2 record averaging a score of 73.8 over four meets. She defeated her opponents by an average of 0.9 points, with each ride scoring in the 70s. She posted a season-best score of 75 at Baylor and again at Texas A&M in the regular-season finale. Milliren went 5-4 in her first season at Georgia, earned MOP honors in two of her five wins and averaged a score of 81.3. Her season-best score of 87 came in the final regular-season meet at Texas A&M. She also went undefeated at the SEC Championship, scoring in the 80s in both competitions.
The team Sportsmanship Award went to Sami Belcher and Grace Rogers. The Standout Student-Athlete Award was presented to senior co-captain Ali Sullivan. It is the second time in her career that she has been given the honor. The Coaches' Awards were presented to Maria Salazar and Kelsey Thatcher. The team's Appreciation Awards went to outgoing strength and condition coach Mike Morrison, Competition Assistant Michelle Morris and Volunteer Coach Herm Sherman.
