ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 1 University of Georgia equestrian team closes out its home schedule on Saturday, March 2 when it hosts UT-Martin on Senior Day at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. Following the competition, Georgia will recognize 15 seniors as part of Senior Day.
“I am very excited for a wonderful weekend here Between the Fences“ assistant coach Mary Meneely said. “We are looking forward to hosting a strong, well-coached and talented team from UT-Martin. We are entering this competition focused on our goals and winning each day. We hope that this weekend will help us achieve some of our goals and help us prepare for the remainder of the regular-season and the postseason.”
The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a record 6-4 after splitting a pair of contests last weekend with Auburn and Delaware State. The Bulldogs fell to Auburn 12-8 on Saturday before bouncing back for a 17-3 win over Delaware State on Sunday.
The Bulldogs had two MOP performances against Auburn, with Kylee Arbuckle winning it in Equitation on the Flat and McKenzie Lantz earning the honor in Reining. Georgia got the win the Equitation on the Flat, with the help of Arbuckle’s MOP-winning ride that sealed the 3-2 win in the event.
The following day against Delaware State, the Georgia riders swept MOP honors, with Carly Anthony (Equitation on the Flat), Sarah Milliren (Equitation Over Fences), Maria Salazar (Horsemanship) and Michelina Carbone (Reining) each picking up the honor. The Bulldogs also swept the Hornets in Equitation Over Fences and Reining and dropped just one point in Equitation on the Flat and two in Horsemanship.
Competition is set to begin at 10 a.m., and fans are encourage to stay for the post-meet recognition of seniors who have won a combined 227 rides for the Bulldogs and over 74 percent of their competitions. Admission to the event is free.
