ATHENS, Ga.- The No. 6 Georgia equestrian team returns home for the first time this semester to host the top-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs own a 7-2 record with a 3-1 mark in the Southeastern Conference. The No. 1 Gamecocks come to Bishop with a 7-2 overall record and are 1-2 in conference action.
"We are excited to host South Carolina this weekend," said Head Coach Meghan Boening, "We have had strong performances the past couple of weeks, which shows that our riders are prepared for the challenge ahead of them. I expect to see high-level, championship riding from both teams. We are looking forward to being back home and I believe it will push us to execute and have a successful weekend."
Georgia is coming off of a three meet, on-the-rode hot streak after defeating Texas A&M 10-9 last weekend. The Bulldogs took home three MOP honors on the day as McKenzie Lantz (Reining), Liza Finsness (Equitation on the Flat), and Anna Sasser (Horsemanship) received the honors in their respective events.
After dropping a 3-2 decision to the Aggies in Equitation Over Fences, Georgia's Flat squad used a 4-1 victory that would prove to be the difference-maker of the meet. The Bulldogs then rode to a 2-2 draw in Horsemanship before giving up a 3-2 decision to Texas A&M in Reining.
The Bulldogs and the Gamecocks met earlier this season when Georgia notched USC 9-9 (1,496-1,493) on the rode. The two teams split a pair of meetings during the regular season last year. South Carolina took the first meeting 11-8 before the Bulldogs came away with an 11-8 win in the final meeting during the regular season. Georgia and South Carolina also faced off in the 2013 Southeastern Conference Championship, with USC taking a 10-7 win.
