RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico --- The ninth-ranked Georgia men's golf team stands sixth after one round of the Puerto Rico Classic.

On Sunday on the Rio Mar Country's Club River Course, the Bulldogs fired a 2-over-par 290. Alabama has the team lead at 9-under 279.

Junior Michael Cromie paced the Bulldogs on Sunday as he fired a 1-under 71. Cromie is in 15th, four back of Clemson's Billy Kennerly (5-under 67).

Senior T.J. Mitchell signed for an even-par 72, followed by junior Keith Mitchell at 1-over 73 and sophomore Nicholas Reach at 2-over 74. Sophomore Sam Straka had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 12-over 84.

"We had some positive things happen today, and we certainly can build off those," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We've got some work to do, but I'm confident our guys will come back dialed in for the second round. We made our share of birdies today (17 as a team), but we gave too much back. We'll need to eliminate that moving forward."

The second round of the Puerto Rico Classic will be played Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Tee times and live results can be found here.
