ATHENS, Ga. --- The members of the Georgia women's diving team will be competing in the Zone B Championships Monday through Wednesday, attempting to earn a qualifying score to join their swimming counterparts at the NCAA Championships later this month.
The Zone B Championships will take place at Tennessee's Jones Aquatic Center.
The only way for divers to reach the NCAAs is to advance from one of the five Zone meets. Zone B this year will have 10 women advance to the NCAAs, where 41 women will compete.
The Lady Bulldogs' team is made up of Ann-Perry Blank, Ansley Long, Darcie O'Brien, Laura Ryan and Kelly Thatcher. Ryan was the SEC winner on 3-meter and she placed third on platform.
"As usual, this will be an extremely competitive meet," Georgia diving coach Dan Laak said. "All the work that's been put in comes down to this meet. In this one, there's no room for error. You have to be at your best to qualify. I'm looking forward to seeing our women compete. They've been working hard, and this is their opportunity to shine."
The 1-meter competition will begin Monday with prelims at 3:30 p.m., followed immediately by the finals. The 3-meter competition will start Tuesday at 11 a.m., and tower will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Live scoring for the meet will be available through divemeets.com.
The Lady Bulldogs will have 17 swimmers -- the maximum total -- at the NCAAs March 21-23 in Indianapolis.
