ATHENS, Ga. - ATHENS, Ga. -- Kevin Kisner, the top-rated junior golf in South Carolina, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play for the Georgia men's golf team, according to an announcement made Friday by Bulldogs coach Chris Haack.
Kisner, a senior at South Aiken High School, has been ranked No. 1 in South Carolina since July of 2001. Kisner chose the Bulldogs over Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Augusta State.
"We've been following Kevin's progress for quite awhile," Haack said. "As the No. 1 golfer in South Carolina, we know what kind of potential and credentials he brings to our program."
Recently, Kisner was presented the Jay Haas Player of the Year Award as determined by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. The award was personally given by Haas, the PGA Tour professional who resides in Greenville, S.C. and won the 1975 NCAA medalist title for Wake Forest.
Kisner also recently was chosen Third-Team All-American by the American Junior Golf Association. He is rated No. 26 nationally in the Golfweek/Titlelist Performance Index.
Kisner's individual titles include the 2000 Junior Four-Ball Championship and the 2000 Upstate Junior Championship. He finished second this year in the Caddie Classic, the Capitol City Classic, the Carolinas Golf Association Junior Championship, the South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championship and the Southern Cross, and he had runner-up efforts in 2000 in the Bobby Chapman Classic and the South Carolina Junior Match-Play.
In his last 33 events, Kisner has finished in the Top 5 17 times and in the Top 20 an additional 11 times.
Kisner led South Aiken to five 2001 tournament titles, including its fourth straight Class AAAA state championship. Kisner finished seventh at the state event and was named South Carolina Golfer of the Year by the Augusta Chronicle.
