McCord to Join Georgia Volleyball in 2013

ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia head volleyball coach Lizzy Stemke has announced the Elle McCord will join the Georgia volleyball team for the 2013 season.
“Elle is a fiery and gritty defensive player that competes every moment she is on the floor,” Stemke said. “We are exited to add another Georgia native along with Amanda Dachs to our 2013 class, as we know both players will play with great pride for their home state.”
The Newnan, Ga., is the daughter of Charles and Mary Grace McCord and has a sister, Brooke, who is currently a junior at UGA. She played her prep career at Northgate High School under Matt Trucks. She was also a member of the A5 club team.
At Northgate, McCord helped her team to the state championship tournament in each of her four years. As a freshman, she helped Northgate to a Final Four appearance, before reaching the Sweet Sixteen as a sophomore. In her final season at Northgate, McCord and her teammates reached the Elite Eight round of the state tournament.
A four-year letter winner, she served as a co-captain for three seasons. As a sophomore, she was named Northgate’s Best Defensive Player, before being named her team’s Best Offensive Player as a junior. Following her senior season, she was named the County Player of the Year, as well as the Women’s Player of the Month. She was named to the all-area team and the all-state team. McCord was also awarded the All-Star Senior Award, earned the Coaches Award and was named a prepvolleyball.com Senior Ace.
As a member of the A5 club team, McCord was a co-captain and All-American while playing as a setter from ages 12-13. Playing at the libero position from ages 14-18, she was named A5’s MVP for her 14’s year when her team placed fifth at nationals and was the starting libero of the 2011 Junior National Championship team. McCord is also a current teammate of fellow 2013 signee Amanda Dachs.
