BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - University of Georgia volleyball player Jasmine Eatmon has been named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team it was announced today by the league office.
"It is truly an honor to be named to the All-Freshman team," Eatmon said. "I am so blessed to even be considered for this. I want to thank my coaches, teammates, family and friends for an incredible year. I am so excited and cannot wait to see what the future brings!"
It is the first time that a Georgia player has been an All-Freshman selection since Briana Bahr in 2009. It is also the first all-SEC nod for a Bulldog since the 2010 season when Valentina Gonzalez picked up second team honors.
"We are thrilled that Jasmine has been recognized by the SEC as an All-SEC Freshmen Team honoree," head coach Lizzy Stemke said. "Jasmine is a truly dynamic athlete that has had many impressive performances this season and we look forward to her continued development here at Georgia."
The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native made her presence known in the Bulldog lineup, playing in each of Georgia's 112 sets and finishing with 155 kills and an attack percentage of .253. She also finished second on the team in blocks with 99, including 14 solo blocks for an average of 0.88 blocks per set. She was also effective from the service line, tallying 14 service aces.
Eatmon was named the SEC Freshman of the Week twice this season, becoming the first player to garner SEC weekly honors twice in the same season since 2008. It was also the first time since Maria Taylor in 2005 that a Bulldog has earned Freshman of the Week honors twice in one season.
Eatmon's first honor came after she helped the Bulldogs to a 1-1 record against LSU and Tennessee. She finished with 14 kills and 12 blocks, including two solo stops last week, averaging 1.40 kills per set, 1.20 blocks per set and 2.45 points per set. She also led the team in solo blocks with three and was third on the team in total blocks with 12. Eatmon finished with nine kills and a season-high eight blocks in a win at LSU, helping Georgia to its first win in Baton Rouge since 2001. Against Tennessee, Eatmon tallied five kills and a season-best six digs, to go along with four blocks. She also registered two service aces against the Lady Vols.
Her second Freshman of the Week honor came after Georgia went 1-1 against Missouri and Kentucky, including a 3-0 win over Missouri. Eatmon hit .459 for the week, including a career-best .688 against Mizzou, going 11-for-16 without committing an error. Against the Tigers, Eatmon finished with 11 kills, which tied her season-best, four assists, three digs and three blocks. Her .688 hitting percentage was the second highest among any Georgia player this season
