LAWRENCE, Kan. – Elena Perri and Stacey Smith earned all-tournament honors in the Kansas Invitational last weekend after leading Georgia to a 2-1 record with wins over North Dakota State and Notre Dame. The wins helped the Bulldogs improve to 10-2 on the season, their best start since the 2007 campaign.
Smith led the Bulldogs with 29 kills and hit at an impressive .458 clip over three matches. She finished with a career-best 13 kills against Notre Dame, marking the highest kill total for a Bulldog this season. The Eden, N.Y., native had a pair of double-digit kill performances last weekend, finishing with 10 kills against Kansas and 13 against Notre Dame.
Perri finished with a team-high 12 blocks over three matches last weekend. Playing in all but one set, Perri averaged 1.33 blocks per set. She picked up two blocks against Kansas, before registering three against North Dakota State and seven against Notre Dame. She also finished with nine kills and a .500 attack percentage. She finished with 10 kills against Notre Dame, tied for third-most on the team.
Smith, Perri and the rest of the Bulldogs will begin Southeastern Conference play on Friday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m., when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., to take on LSU. Georgia earned a 3-2 win over LSU last season in Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs will then face Texas A&M on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
