ATHENS, Ga. - Head Coach Lizzy Stemke announces that Cassidy Anderson has signed her National Letter of Intent to play her collegiate career at Georgia. Anderson, a native of Louisville, Ky., will join the Bulldogs this fall.
"We are thrilled to add Cassidy Anderson to the Bulldog roster," Stemke said. "Cassidy is a fierce competitor and has proven that she knows how to win. She has a versatile skill set has allowed her to step into just about every role possible on the volleyball court and in every role she has carried she brings intensity and leadership to the court. Cassidy will be a fantastic addition to our program."
Anderson played her prep career at Assumption High School and helped her team to the KHSAA State Championship title, the KHSAA Regional Championship title and the KSHAA District Championship title in each of her four seasons on the team. A four-year varsity letter winner, Anderson was named to the All-District team in 2012 and 2013, as well as the All-Region and All-State team in 2013. In 2011, she helped Assumption to a Durango Fall Classic Championship, a tournament in Las Vegas that features the top teams in the country. She followed the Durango Classic Championship title with a runner-up performance in 2012. Anderson also helped her team to three consecutive Asics Challenge Championship titles.
In addition to her high school career, Anderson had a stellar club career. In 2009 and 2010, Anderson played for the AAU National Championship team, earning AAU All-American honors in both seasons. In addition to her AAU All-American honors in 2010, she was also named the MVP of the AAU Tournament. In 2010 and 2011, she played for the JVA National Championship team after spending two years as a member of the JVDA National Championship team. In 2014, Anderson helped her team to the Sports Performance President's Day championship and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. In 2013, she was named to the Dells Showcase All-Tournament team, two years after leading her team to the Dells Showcase Championship. In 2008, Anderson and her club were the USAV Mideast and USAV Big South Qualifier Champions.
Anderson has also been involved in several leadership activities at Assumption. For the past four years, she has been an Ambassador and Peer Leader for Assumption. In 2013 and 2014, she was selected to lead an overnight retreat for underclassmen women and serve on the Recruitment Team that promoted Assumption. She also served as the sports editor for her high school paper in 2013 and 2014.
In addition to her leadership roles at Assumption, Anderson has donated her time to her community. For the past five years she has taught volleyball to grade school kids. She has also served as a teacher's aid in a pre-K classroom, volunteered with the Shelbyville No-Kill Organizations and spent time making blankets for children in hospitals and shelter as part of Project Linus.
Cassidy is the daughter of Todd and Maria Anderson and has a brother, Drew, and a sister Kelsey, who played volleyball at Alabama. Her uncle, Steve Schoenbaechler, played football at Kentucky.
