ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia volleyball team wrapped up spring competition last week with a pair of wins over Georgia State and Georgia Southern. Georgia's win over Georgia State came at the Ramsey Center before the Bulldogs travelled to Statesboro, Ga., to pick up the win over Georgia Southern.
"This team continues to improve and we are extremely excited about the depth that this group has," head coach Lizzy Stemke said. "We finished our spring with strong performances against both Georgia State and Georgia Southern this week and both were great statements of the hard work that has been put in throughout the semester."
The Bulldogs also traveled to Nashville, Tenn., this spring and saw action against teams from Lipscomb and Southern Illinois. The Bulldogs opened up the spring season at the Georgia Tech Spring Tournament where it went 2-1 with wins over South Alabama and Kennesaw State.
With the conclusion of spring competition, the Bulldogs will finish their spring training on the sand court this week before starting training in early May for the upcoming European trip.
"We look forward to a change of pace as we will wrap up our training on the sand court before heading back to the court on May 8th for our European tour training," added Stemke. "We are so fortunate to be taking this trip in May and we want to make sure we are as fresh as possible, both physically and mentally. The change to the sand court in this beautiful Georgia weather will be perfect."
The Bulldogs will take part in a European tour this summer, and will compete in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Italy. You will be able to follow the team during its European trip online at www.georgiadogs.com and by following Coach Stemke (@coachlstemke) on Twitter.
