STARKVILLE, Miss. --- The Georgia volleyball team (13-18, 1-17) fell in its final match of the season 3-1 at Mississippi State (14-18, 6-12) on Saturday afternoon.

Georgia held off the sweep with a third set win, but MSU took the game after scores of 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, and 14-25.

"I would just like to take the opportunity to thank our three seniors--Elle McCord, Desiree McCray and Megan Spencer--for their commitment for four and five years," said head coach Lizzy Stemke. "They have given heart and soul to our program and university, and we have appreciated all of their time and efforts. We have had our struggles, but these three have displayed resiliency, persistence and class throughout."

Amanda Dachs led the Georgia squad with 13 kills and nine digs while Kendall Kazor followed with nine kills after having six through the first two sets. Seniors Elle McCord and Desiree McCray put up solid numbers in their final match, as McCord had eight digs and McCray tabbed seven kills and five blocks.

MSU pulled away early in the first set, using a 10-3 run to climb ahead 11-5. Georgia worked its way back, closing the gap to as much as two late at 23-21 after a McCray ace, but MSU closed it out with a 25-22 win.

The second frame was similar to the prior set, as a scoring spree of 5-1 put MSU with a 9-5 advantage. Georgia kept it close, as its own 5-1 run knotted it at 13 each. However, the home team once again extended its lead en route to another 25-22 victory.

Out of the break, MSU found momentum early, going up 7-1 and forcing Georgia to use a timeout. The Athens Bulldogs continued to work out of the deficit with a 5-0 run to 13-12 after a Caroline Ostman kill on an over pass. A Dachs kill gave Georgia its first lead at 17-16. MSU took back the lead at 19-18, but a 5-0 run to end the frame led Georgia to a 25-22 win.

In the final set, MSU developed an early 13-3 lead with help from a 9-0 run. Georgia couldn’t recover, as MSU hit .480 for the set on its way to a 25-14 win and match victory.
