Josh Lauer is in his third season as a member of the of the Georgia volleyball coaching staff. After spending three seasons as an assistant coach, Lauer was named Associate Head Coach in January, 2014.In his tenure, Lauer has served as both the defensive and recruiting coordinator and been responsible for scouting and opponent preparation. On the court, he has focused on middle blocker and right side attacker training.

Since his arrival, Georgia has seen its blocking totals increase each year. The Bulldog defensive front has seen the total number of blocks increase from 245.5 in his first year to 275 this past season. Georgia middles averaged 2.3 blocks per set in 2013, good enough for fifth in the SEC. Elena Perri ranked in the top 10 in the SEC in blocks per set, averaging 1.04 in 2013.

With the help of Lauer's guidance, the Georgia volleyball program has taken great strides, making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004 this past season. Georgia also put together its first 20-win since 2002 and recorded this most wins in a season since 1994.

Before coming to Georgia, Lauer spent the three previous seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Alabama where he helped the Crimson Tide land its first top-30 recruiting class and a trio of high school All-Americans in 2010.

Prior to his stint in Tuscaloosa, Lauer spent four years as the head coach at the University of Missouri - St. Louis where he took his team from the bottom of the conference to a top five standing. The Tritons put together their first 10-plus conference match winning season in Lauer's final year after managing just four Great Lakes Valley Conference wins when he began in 2004.

Throughout his tenure at Missouri - St. Louis, Lauer's squads collected numerous team and individual accolades including the American Volleyball Coaches Association Academic Award, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Sportsmanship Award, one ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team honoree and several all-conference and academic all-conference selections.

Lauer's coaching career got started at the club level where he spent eight years with the St. Louis CYC Volleyball Club. He had three top-five national finishes in the open division at the United States Junior Olympic Volleyball National Tournament and two additional top 20 finishes. More than 20 of Lauer's club team players were recruited and played at the NCAA Division I level.

An original native of York, Pa., Lauer is a 1999 graduate of Washington University - St. Louis where he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry with a minor in religious studies. He is married to the former Debra Reckase. They have two children, Eli and Jonah.
