ATHENS, Ga.--Three members of the Georgia women's tennis team are set to compete in the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships beginning Thursday at the Billie Jean Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

"It's a really exciting time of the year for us," said head coach Jeff Wallace. "I really think all three girls are going to finish very strong. I think we have an opportunity to make improvements on some already good rankings this weekend. I'm looking forward to some big results."

Lauren Herring, Maho Kowase and Silvia Garcia will all compete in singles and Kowase and Herring will also compete in doubles. Herring and Garcia received automatic singles bids for their performances at the All-American Championships and Southeast Regional Championships, respectively. Kowase earned an at-large singles bid and with Herring, an at-large doubles bid.

In the first round of singles, Herring, the tournament's sixth seed, will square off with Virginia's Julia Elbaba and eighth seeded Garcia will face off with Kiah Generette of Baylor. Both Herring and Garcia have not played their respective opponents before. Kowase will look to upset fifth seeded Zsofi Susanyi of Cal. Kowase went 1-1 against Susanyi last year.

In doubles, Herring and Kowase will match up with Bianca Sanon and Kanika Vaidya of Columbia. The winner will face North Carolina's Hayley Carter and Jamie Loeb in the second round.

Former Bulldog All-American Agata Cioroch captured a pair of ITA National Indoor titles in 2002-03. In doubles, All-Americans Michelle Anderson and Angela Lettiere won it in 1994 and All-Americans Vanessa Castellano and Marissa Catlin claimed the 1999 title.

Georgia is one of 21 schools represented in the women's singles draw and one of only three teams with three players in the draw.

The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serve as the culmination of the fall college tennis season. The championship features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women. For updated results and draws, click here.
