ATHENS, Ga. -- Bulldog senior Lauren Herring and recent graduate Maho Kowase were both named to the 2014 ITA Collegiate All-Star Team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Tuesday.

Herring and Kowase become recipients of the honor having reached the doubles finals of the 2013 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships and the doubles semifinals of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. The Bulldog duo also made it all the way to the doubles final at the 2014 NCAA Championships and ended the year as the No. 2 ranked team in the country with a record of 36-7.

Featuring the nation's top student-athletes from tennis programs across the nation, the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team was inaugurated in 1984. The All-Star Team features the nation's top-ranked men's and women's players from the year-end ITA College Tennis Rankings at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior and Community College levels, as well as winners of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and 2014 NCAA Division I Championships.

"The ITA would like to congratulate this fantastic group of student-athletes for their outstanding play and sportsmanship during this past season," said David Benjamin, ITA Executive Director.

All members of the 2014 ITA Collegiate All-Star team will receive a personalized plaque in recognition of their tremendous accomplishments. Since 1984, the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team has been recognized at an awards luncheon held during the US Open but the luncheon will not be held in 2014. The ITA hopes the ITA Awards Luncheon and related activities will be reinstated in the summer of 2015.
