Ayaka Okuno

April 10, 2013

ATHENS, Ga.--Georgia women's tennis player Ayaka Okuno was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

"It's such an honor for Ayaka to win," said head coach Jeff Wallace. "It's exciting that she's in the lineup for us. I think there are a lot of great things in her future and I think it's neat that the SEC recognized just how great she is."

Okuno, who made her Georgia debut last weekend, went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.

The Osaka, Japan, native dropped only five games combined in her singles and doubles matches throughout the weekend.

On Sunday, she picked up her first match clincher with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Arkansas' Flavia Araujo.

Georgia travels to No. 22 Auburn and No. 8 Alabama this weekend for its regular season finale.
