GAINESVILLE, Fla.-----The Georgia contingent registered a perfect opening day at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships Friday.

In singles, all five Bulldogs won their opening round match in straight sets to advance to Saturday's round of 32. Georgia senior Chelsey Gullickson, seeded No. 2 overall and ranked ninth nationally, defeated Alessandra Bonte (South Florida) 6-4,6-1. Gullickson is 8-1 this fall.  Sophomore Kate Fuller dispatched Natalia Melibeu (Jacksonville) 6-0,6-3 while freshman Lauren Herring blanked Kathline Durden (Florida A&M) 6-0,6-0 as they both earned their eighth win of the season. Sophomore Alina Jerjomina beat Naella Wawrinka (Stetson) 6-4,6-0 and sophomore Lilly Kimbell took care of Jenna Doerfler (Central Florida) 6-2,6-0 to cap a perfect day in singles for the Bulldogs.

Friday's scheduled featured two rounds of doubles, and the two Bulldog teams combined to go 4-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the opening round, the 20th-ranked duo of Fuller/Herring breezed past Paola Garrido/Natalie Maffett (Georgia Southern) 8-1. The Gullickson/Kimbell tandem posted an 8-0 shutout of Wawrinka/MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell (Stetson). Then in the round of 16, Fuller/Herring advanced with an 8-1 win over Alexis Rodriguez/Genevieve Lorbergs (Central Florida) 8-1.  Also, the Gullickson/Kimbell team emerged with an 8-4 victory over Whitney Byrd/Kir Kemp (Ga. State) 8-4.

"It's great to see everyone have success today in singles and doubles," said Georgia coach Jeff Wallace. "There's plenty of talented players in the southeast region, and it's an accomplishment to go through the day without losing a match."

A four-day singles and doubles event, this regional serves as a qualifying event for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, considered the second leg of the collegiate Grand Slam. The Indoor Championships are held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., from Nov. 3-6.
