Pacific Palisades, Calif.—Georgia’s remaining participants in the 2013 ITA/Riviera All-American Championships fell short Saturday, ending a very solid week-long tournament performance for the Bulldogs.
In singles, No. 3 Lauren Herring was edged by North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb, 6-2, 7-6(2). The loss was Herring’s first of the fall.
In doubles competition, Georgia’s tandem of Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia, ranked No. 2 in the country, beat Tulsa’s Enrique Isaura and Samantha Vickers 8-5, but then was topped by Georgia Tech’s No. 26 pair of Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey, 8-4.
Herring will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships after reaching the singles quarterfinals.
Part of the collegiate grand slam, the All-American Championships hosted more than 200 players over a two-week period. Pre-qualifying took place over the weekend and the qualifying round through Wednesday. The Main Draw began Thursday and will last through the weekend.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 8-11 in New York, N.Y.
