PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF.-----Georgia junior Maho Kowase advanced to the round of 16 at at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
Kowase outlasted 89th-ranked Aleksandra Josifoska (UNLV) in three sets, posting a 5-7,6-4,6-2 victory. With the latest win, the 37th-ranked Kowase remained perfect on the year at 7-0. Up next on Friday, she faces the second seed in fifth-ranked Zsofi Susanyi (California) in the round of 16.
"Maho was down a set and trailing 4-2 in the second and then came back to force a third set," said Georgia coach Jeff Wallace. "It's exciting to see her doing so well here at the All-American against some of the best players. Her goal in qualifying was to make the main draw, and she did that, and now she has a win in the main draw plus another huge opportunity coming up against Susanyi Friday."
Last season, Kowase went 25-8 to earn All-SEC first team honors. In her career, Kowase is now 63-19 in singles.
