ATHENS---Georgia sophomore Silvia Garcia won the Bulldog Classic singles shootout, capping off a strong Sunday for the Bulldogs on the final day of the Bulldog Classic. On the weekend, Georgia only lost one match.

“It was a good weekend,” head coach Jeff Wallace said. “I thought [Kate Fuller] and [Silvia Garcia] played great doubles and won the doubles draw, and I thought all of our players really played good singles throughout the whole entire weekend. The shootout was fun, playing the 10-point tie-breakers. Silvia was able to get through and become singles champion for the 2013 Bulldog Classic. I’m excited for all of our players.”

The six flight champions plus the runner-ups in flights one and two were awarded spots in the shootout. The shootout was a three-round single elimination draw consisting on 10-point tie-breakers. All six of Georgia’s players won their respective flights.

Lauren Herring, Kate Fuller, Silvia Garcia and Mia King all advanced to the semifinals of the shootout with first-round wins. To secure a spot in the finals, Fuller topped Herring 10-7 and Garcia beat King, 12-10. Garcia outlasted Fuller 10-4 to win the shootout title.

Earlier in the day, Georgia enjoyed a perfect round of singles across all six flights. No. 3 Herring topped No. 45 Joelle Kissell, 6-3, 6-4. In flight two, No. 14 Kowase nearly blanked Christy Sipes, beating the N.C. State represenative 6-1, 6-3. A court over, No. 60 Garcia finished undefeated in flight three with a 6-1, 6-2 win over the Wolfpack’s Elisha Hande. In flight four, No. 101 Fuller quickly beat Taylor Zaytoun 6-1, 6-0. Mia King beat N.C. State’s Liza Fieldsend 6-1, 6-1 to win flight five, and Lilly Kimbell won six straight games in the second set to top Natalia Janowicz, 6-4, 6-1.
