ANN ARBOR, Mich.—The Georgia women’s tennis team notched two doubles wins and four singles victories on Saturday at the Wolverine Invitational.
“I think we played great today,” said head coach Jeff Wallace. “I felt like we built on yesterday. Our doubles were solid from start to finish on both courts and in singles we competed hard, looked fit and showed great confidence and focus.”
To begin the day, Georgia went 2-0 against Iowa in doubles competition. The Bulldogs’ 30th-ranked duo of Kate Fuller and Lauren Herring topped 58th-ranked Ruth Seaborne and Shelby Talcott, 8-2. Georgia’s Maho Kowase and Makenzie Craft remained perfect on the weekend with an 8-1 win over Christina Harazin and Ellen Silver.
In singles, Georgia squared off with Michigan. On court 1, 37th-ranked Kowase came from behind to beat 58th-ranked Brooke Bolender, 6-7, 7-5, 6-0. On court 2, Herring, ranked 53rd-nationally, topped Ronit Yurovsky, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. The Bulldogs’ 62nd-ranked Fuller beat 125th-ranked Sarah Lee 6-4, 7-6 (5). On court 4, Lilly Kimbell picked up her first win of the fall and Georgia’s fourth singles win of the day with a 6-0, 6-4 win over 100th-ranked Mimi Nguyen.
Craft fell short against the Wolverines’ Amy Zhu, 6-3, 7-5 and senior Kelli Jordan lost to Michigan’s Kristen Dodge, 6-0, 6-0.
