ATHENS-----The 20th-ranked Georgia duo of Kate Fuller and Lauren Herring posted an impressive 8-2 win over Georgia Tech’s sixth-ranked tandem of Jillian O’Neill and Caroline Lilley Saturday.

Overall, five Bulldogs notched singles wins and two doubles teams registered a victory in day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational. This is the first event of the fall season as well as the first time that Fuller, a sophomore, and the freshman Herring have played together. Fuller earned All-America honors in doubles last season playing with Chelsey Gullickson. Herring, preseason ranked seventh nationally among freshmen/newcomers in singles, captured numerous doubles titles in her junior career.

Also in doubles, the Bulldog sophomore duo of Rachael Hart and Alina Jerjomina cruised to an 8-4 win over the Tech team of Jasmine Minor and Alex Anghelescu. The Yellow Jacket team of Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn edged the Georgia duo of Maho Kowase and Lilly Kimbell 9-8 (7-2 in a tiebreaker).

Following doubles, singles action took place and Kowase, Herring, Fuller and Hart won matches in straight sets. Kimbell rallied back in three sets to defeat Mary Jeremiah (Oklahoma State) 2-6,6-1,6-3. The round-robin event held at the Windward Lake Club in Alpharetta features players from Georgia, Yale, Oklahoma State and the host Yellow Jackets.

“It was an exciting doubles match and big win for Kate and Lauren today,” said Georgia coach Jeff Wallace. “They got down 2-0 and then won eight straight games to take the match. “Rachael and Alina played solid too in getting a doubles win. In singles, I thought Lauren and Maho responded well after a close first set to take charge of their matches in straight sets and Lilly came back strong in hers.”

The tournament concludes Sunday with singles slated to get underway at 9 a.m. followed by doubles at approximately 11:30 a.m.
