ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia women's tennis continued their success from Friday into Saturday at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts, winning all of their doubles and singles matches.
In doubles, the Bulldog's 40th-ranked pair of Cameron Ellis and Alexandra Anghelescu dealt a strong win over Veiga/Battye (Troy) finishing the match 8-1. Georgia's Chelsey Gullickson and Kate Fuller quickly followed with a solid 8-0 win over Grymel/Guijt (Troy). To finish things out, the Bulldogs' Lilly Kimbell and Maho Kowase defeated Dhaoui/Ramirez-Vega (Troy) 8-3, extending their winning streak to seven on the year.
Georgia welcomed back Gullickson who saw her first collegiate action since winning the 2010 NCAA singles title at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex last May. Though she was extended to three sets in her singles match by 91st-ranked Leslie Hureau (Indiana), the Bulldog champion prevailed winning 6-1,2-6,6-4. Since May, Gullickson played in a handful of professional tournaments as an amateur, including the US Open, before opting to return to UGA this semester.
"The whole week has been hectic from getting all the receipts, doing the paperwork and getting eligible, which I found out just this morning, to preparing to play a match," said Gullickson. "I feel like I've been in a rush for everything. This was my first competitive match since the end of September. I just need to play more points and work on my consistency. I was up and down a lot today, and I need to keep playing."
The Bulldogs continued perfect play on Saturday by sweeping Indiana in singles. Georgia's second seeded Maho Kowase, ranked 97th nationally, routed Indiana's Evgeniya Vertesheva 6-2,6-0. Alexandra Anghelescu defeated Katya Zapadalova (Indiana) 6-2,6-2. 95th-ranked Lilly Kimbell held Indiana's Charlotte Martin to a 6-2,6-4 win. Alina Jerjomina defeated Diana Kyllmann (Indiana) 6-3,6-2. 67th-ranked Nadja Gilchrist posted a 6-3,6-2 win over Indiana's Kayla Fujimoto. Senior Cameron Ellis, ranked 58th nationally, defeated Sophie Garre (Indiana) 6-2,6-0.
Sunday's round-robin action will begin at 9 a.m. with Indiana facing Kansas State. Georgia players will be in action starting at 12 p.m. All matches on Sunday will be singles matches, and admission is free.
