ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia softball head coach Lu Harris-Champer has announced that Brittany Gray of Greenwood, Ind., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bulldogs beginning in 2014-15.
“Brittany is one of the top pitchers in the 2014 class nationally,” Harris-Champer said. “Offensively, she has a knack for getting clutch hits in key situations against some of the top travel ball teams and pitchers in the country. She has played against some of the toughest competition in the country, which will help ease the adjustment to playing in the Southeastern Conference.”
Ranked as the 26th best player in the nation by Student Sports Softball, Gray comes to Georgia as a highly decorated softball player at Greenwood High School under Head Coach Stephanie Senac. A two-time Johnson County Player of the Year and two-time Gatorade Player of the Year nominee, Gray was has made the all-conference team in each of her three seasons at Greenwood. As a junior, she played in the Indiana Elite North and South All-Star Challenge, where she was named the MVP. She earned a spot on the ICGSA Indiana All-State team and was a member of the all-county team. As a sophomore, Gray broke the Greenwood Community High School record for home runs in a season with 14. For her efforts, she was named to the 2012 Indianapolis Star Super Team and was named the 2012 Indianapolis Star Player of the Year. Gray also was a member of the 2012 all-county team and was named the Johnson County Softball Player of the Year. She was an ICGSA Second Team All-State selection and was nominated for the Gatorade National Player of the Year. In her first season at Greenwood, Gray earned a spot on the all-conference team, all-county team and the Indianapolis Star All-South Team.
Gray played travel ball for the Chicago Bandits under Head Coach Kevin Stephens. In July, she helped the Bandits to a first-place finish at the DeMarini Invitational. She also led the Bandits to a first-place finish at the Independence Day Invitational in Boulder, Colo., in 2011, as well as a third-place finish at ASA Nationals the same season.
Gray is the fourth of six signees to be announced as part of the Georgia signing class that will join the program in 2014-15. Georgia will reveal a new member of the signing class each day until all six have been announced.
