May 22, 2011 Super Regional Website | NCAA Division I Softball Championship Bracket
ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia has been named one of eight host sites for the 2011 NCAA Division I Softball Championship Super Regionals. The No. 6 National Seed for the NCAA Softball Championships, Georgia (50-12) was one of 16 teams to advance to the Super Regional round of play by winning the Athens Regional with a perfect 3-0 mark. Georgia will square off against No. 11 National Seed Baylor (43-12), who won the College Park Regional, also with a 3-0 record. The Bulldogs and Bears will play a best-of-three game series at Jack Turner Softball Stadium this weekend. Game one of the series will be played Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be aired on ESPNU/ESPN3.com. Game two, and if necessary game three, will then be played on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively on ESPNU/ESPN3.com. If the Lexington Super Regional does not play an if necessary game three on Sunday, the 3:30 p.m. Georgia-Baylor game will also be simulcast on ESPN. In the Athens Regional, Georgia posted an 8-0, five-inning win over Georgia State, defeated UAB, 9-2, and clinched the Athens Regional by defeating Florida State, 10-2 in six innings. In the College Park Regional hosted by Maryland, Baylor posted three shutouts defeating Lehigh, 4-0, and East Carolina twice, 2-0 and 1-0. Georgia and Baylor have met twice previously. Those meetings came in 2009 at the Easton Challenge in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and the Bulldogs won both contests by run-rule in five innings, 12-1 and 9-0. The Bulldogs are playing in their 10th-consecutive and 10th overall NCAA Softball Championship and will be making their fourth-straight Super Regional appearance. After going 3-0 in this year's regional round of play, Georgia's all-time NCAA postseason record stands at 39-18. Each of the eight Super Regional winners will earn a spot in the 28th NCAA Division I Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City June 2-8. Georgia will be vying to make its third appearance in the WCWS after advancing to Oklahoma City in 2009 and 2010. 2011 NCAA ATHENS SUPER REGIONAL TICKET INFORMATION: Tickets for the 2011 NCAA Athens Super Regional will go on sale Monday morning at 9 a.m. ET.
