LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three University of Georgia softball players earned NFCA All-Region honors, it was announced today by the NFCA. Kaylee Puailoa and Geri Ann Glasco garnered first team accolades, while Paige Wilson picked up second team honors. The trio joins 263 players from 137 difference teams across the nation that were selected to an All-Region team.
Puailoa ranks second on the team with a .390 batting average. This season, she has picked up 62 hits, including 11 doubles and 51 RBI. The Buena Park, Calif., native broke the UGA freshman home run record with 15 round trippers this season and has slugged .742 for the year. Puailoa earned First Team All-SEC honors and Freshman All-SEC honors after finishing the SEC season ranked near the top of many offensive categories, including ranked in the near the top in batting average, slugging percentage on base percentage, hits, home runs, total bases and hit by pitches. She also earned Freshman of the Week honors once this season.
Glasco led the team with 19 home runs this season, setting the Georgia freshman home run record. Her .367 batting average ranked third on the team and included 61 hits and 11 doubles. She also slugged .777 year, had an on-base percentage of .471 and led the team with 34 walks. Glasco earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Year honors, as well as a spot on the All-Freshman Team, was name the SEC Freshman of the Week three times and became the first player in Georgia history to earn National Player of the Week honors twice in the same season. Against league foes, Glasco led the SEC in home runs with 11 and led all SEC freshmen with 22 RBI. Against South Carolina this year, she tied an SEC record with three home runs in a single game.
Wilson was named to the NFCA All-Region Second Team after leading the team with a .412 batting average. An everyday starter for the Bulldogs this season, Wilson has been one of the most consistent hitters in the Georgia lineup, hitting both for average and for power. This season, Wilson has tallied 77 hits that includes 12 doubles, two triples and 15 home runs. She has driving a team-best 63 RBI and is slugging .738. The Chicago, Ill., native is a First Team All-SEC selection and ranks near the top of several offensive categories in SEC play, including on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, RBI, slugging percentage, batting average and total bases. In the final regular-season series for Georgia, Wilson hit three home runs, including two in a single game against No. 8/7 LSU, marking the first time in her career that she has hit two home runs in a single game. For her efforts that weekend, she became the first Georgia player since 2011 to earn SEC Player of the Week honors. Wilson also hit two grand slams in one weekend this year, both coming against Radford in non-conference play.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
