ATHENS, Ga.—University of Georgia softball player Paige Wilson was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after helping Georgia to two wins against Arkansas over the weekend.
It is the fourth time this season that Wilson has earned the honor, as she earned the recognition after the Cathedral City Classic in California and after conference series play against Ole Miss and Alabama.
The Chicago native recorded hits in each game versus Arkansas, and had a two-run home run on Sunday to get Georgia’s first runs of the game. Wilson also had the RBI-single for Georgia’s lone run of game two.
Currently this season, Wilson is second on the team in batting average (.327), hits (53), doubles (9), home runs (9) and RBI (43).
With the regular season concluded, Georgia will start postseason play with the SEC Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Thursday, May 10, at 5 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs will be the four seed and are pitted against fifth-seed Kentucky in the opening round. The first two days of the tournament will be featured on ESPNU while Saturday’s championship game will be on ESPN.
