ATHENS, Ga. - University of Georgia freshman softball player Paige Wilson was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week following her performance last week against No. 2 Alabama. It is the third time this season that Wilson has earned the honor.
Wilson led the team in nearly every offensive category including batting average, hits, runs scored, home runs and RBI. Her .600 batting average included six hits, four runs, one double, two home runs and five RBI. She also registered a slugging percentage of 1.300 and boasted a .636 on-base percentage. In 10 official at bats, Wilson did not record a strikeout.
The Chicago, Ill., native was also perfect defensively, registering four putouts, five assists and did not commit an error.
In Georgia's 7-4 win over Alabama on Friday, Wilson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one home run and three RBI. Wilson added a game-tying home run in game two. In the final game against The Crimson Tide, Wilson went 2-for-4 with a single and a double.
Wilson and the rest of the Georgia softball team will be back in action on Wednesday evening when they welcome Kennesaw State to Jack Turner Stadium for the final midweek, non-conference game of the season. The Bulldogs will travel to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend to take on LSU.
