BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Georgia softball player Kaylee Puailoa has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for April 15-21, it was announced today. This is the first league honor for Puailoa and the fifth time a Georgia player has been selected the SEC Freshman of the Week this season.
Puailoa went 5-for-11 for a .455 batting average to help Georgia to a 3-1 record last week, including a sweep of the 13th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies. She recorded a hit in each of Georgia's four games last week.
The Buena Park, Calif., native tied for the team lead and led all Georgia freshman with a slugging percentage of .818 and registered an OPS of 1.356, while recording nine total bases.
Puailoa started the week by recording her 10th double of the season against USC Upstate before help the Bulldogs to its third SEC series sweep this season and their first wins over a ranked opponent this season. In Georgia's 12-7 win over the Aggies on Saturday, Puailoa hit a home run that tied the game at 5-5, allowing the Bulldogs to go on and take the win. In that game, Puailoa was able to reach base safely in all four of her plate appearances, recording a single, a home run and walk before reaching on an error in her last at bat.
Puailoa and the Bulldogs continue their home stand on Wednesday, April 24 at 6 p.m., when they welcome the Georgia State Panthers to Jack Turner Stadium for the final non-conference game of the regular season. Georgia will then travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the No. 3/4 Florida Gators for a three-game SEC series that is schedule to begin on Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m.
