BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Georgia freshman Tina Iosefa has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for March 11-17, it was announced today by the league office. It is the first honor for Iosefa and the second for a Georgia player this season.
Iosefa finished the week with a .462 average after going 6-for-13, while slugging 1.231 to help Georgia to four wins, including a win over rival Georgia Tech and its first sweep of Auburn in Alabama since 2009. She also drew three walks, scored four times and led the team with seven RBI. Her home run in the top of the fifth in the series finale at Auburn secured the sweep of the Tigers and gave the Bulldogs its first lead of the game since the first inning.
The Lynwood, Calif., native continued to show her knack for the big hit, belting three home runs in four games, including two, two-run homers. In all, four of her six hits last week went for extra bases. For the season, Iosefa owns nine home runs, tied for most-ever by a Georgia freshman, with all but one coming with at least one runner aboard.
Iosefa has been an integral part in Georgia’s lineup during its current 11-game win streak. During that time, she is hitting at a .424 clip with 14 hits, including two doubles and nine home runs, eight of which have come in the last 11 games.
Iosefa and the Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday, March 20, when they host Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m., at Jack Turner Stadium.
