ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 1-ranked University of Georgia softball team will face Penn State tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET before welcoming No. 21 LSU for a three-game Southeastern Conference series this weekend at Jack Turner Stadium.
Georgia (17-1) added the game against Penn State (8-6) on Thursday morning to make up for games lost due to inclement weather this past week. The Bulldogs had two games rained out this past Saturday, and the Nittany Lions have only played five of a scheduled 12 games during their Spring Break trip with games at the Buzz Classic and at Auburn being cancelled.
UGA and PSU had met three times previously, and the Bulldogs lead the series 2-1. The last meeting between the schools came in 2004 when Georgia shutout the Penn State 3-0 in the Palm Springs Classic.
After the newly added game against Penn State, Georgia will open SEC play with a three-game series against LSU with game one on Friday at 6:30 p.m., game two on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and the series finale Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
LSU (15-7, 0-2 SEC) opened its SEC schedule on Wednesday dropping both games of a double header with No. 2 Florida, 8-1 and 5-0.
In the all-time UGA-LSU series, the Tigers hold a 29-14 lead. Last year in Baton Rouge, LSU won the first two games of the series, 5-1 and 5-3, before UGA won game three, 3-2.
Admission is free to all regular season home games at Jack Turner Stadium. Live stats and audio will be available on www.georgiadogs.com.
For Saturday's UGA-LSU game, the first 500 fans will receive Georgia Softball Silly Bands.
