BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Geri Ann Glasco has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office. It is the first weekly award for Glasco this season and the fourth time that she has picked up weekly honors in her career.
Glasco led the Bulldogs to a 5-1 record last week. She registered a .500 batting average, going 8-for-16 with a double and four home runs. After hitting her first home run this season against Mercer on Monday, she became the first player in school history to hit two grand slams in a single game when she accomplished the feat in Georgia’s 17-0 win over Marshall. The grand slams were the first and second of her career.
Through six games last week, the Watkinsville, Ga., native slugged 1.313 and led all players with 12 RBI. She also reached base in each of the six games played, including six times by way of a walk.
Glasco also saw time in the circle, going 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA in 13.1 innings of work. She threw three complete games, one shutout and combined with Chelsea Wilkinson for another shutout. She also struck out 13 batters.
Glasco and the Georgia softball team return to action Friday, Feb. 28-March 2 when they host Western Carolina, St. John’s and UAB in the Bulldog Invitational. Georgia’s first game of the three-day tournament will be at 3 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 28 against Western Carolina.
