OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Senior Tess Sito has been named to the USA Softball Top 50 Watch List for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, it was announced today. Sito joins student-athletes from 34 NCAA Division I universities and 12 athletic conferences. The Southeastern Conference and Pac-12 lead the way with eight member schools represented. The list is made up of 27 seniors, 15 juniors and eight sophomores, with freshman ineligible for consideration.
Last season, Sito started all 62 games and earned a spot on the NFCA All-Region team. She returns for the 2013 season as one of the team’s leaders after hitting .305 with 45 runs, 61 hits, 35 RBI, nine doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 22 stolen bases in 2012. She finished second on the team in hits and third in batting average. She posted a career-high four hits with a run, two RBI, two doubles and a home run in a six-inning win over Kennesaw State.
Sito also saw time in the circle last season, appearing in 12 games, making nine starts, and finishing with a 0.88 ERA and a record of 9-1.
The Top 25 Finalists for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced April 10. While an athlete does not have to be on the “Watch List” to be considered for the Top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 Finalists. The Top 10 Finalists will be announced May 8 and the Top 3 Finalists will be announced May 22. On May 28 prior to the start of the 2013 NCAA Women’s College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City, the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed.
