BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Georgia softball team was picked to finish third in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division, according to the preseason poll released today by the league office. The Bulldogs finished with 34 points in the voting. 

Tennessee (12 points) was picked to finish first in the SEC East, followed by league newcomer Missouri (30 points). Florida (38 points) was selected to finish fourth, followed by Kentucky (58 points) and South Carolina (65 points).

Reigning National Champion Alabama was selected to win the SEC Title and finish first in the Western Division. The Crimson Tide (12 points) was followed by LSU (28 points), Texas A&M (31 points), Arkansas (51 points), Mississippi State (56 points), Auburn (63 points) and Ole Miss (74 points). 

Points for the poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6 basis for the Eastern Division and a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 basis for the Western Division. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Bulldogs, ranked ninth in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll, return eight players from the 2012 squad, which finished with a 45-17 record, including a 17-11 mark in the SEC, and made its 11th-straight postseason appearance. 

Georgia will begin its 2013 campaign Feb. 8 when it hosts Elon at 3 p.m., as a part of the Sixth Annual Red and Black Showcase.
