CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.—The University of Georgia softball team closed out its time at the Cathedral City Classic with a 3-2 win over No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday.
With the win, the No. 13 Bulldogs improve to 12-2 on the season while the Sooners move to 9-3. Through the team's three-day stay, Georgia compiled a 4-1 record after defeating Arizona, Cal State Fullerton, UCLA and Oklahoma and falling to Washington on Friday.
Freshman Paige Wilson posted a .438 batting in the five games, as the shortstop had seven hits and seven RBI. Junior Tess Sito followed, hitting .421 with team highs of eight hits and nine RBI. Wilson, Sito and seniors Kristyn Sandberg and Ashley Razey each hit three home runs.
Montemayor (4-1) earned the win over the Sooners after striking out five and giving up seven hits in her complete game. Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts (4-3) suffered the loss, as she allowed four hits and retired 10 batters.
Georgia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second behind a Wilson homer down the right field line. The long ball brought in Tiesha Reed, who came in for Sandberg after she was hit by a pitch.
After four more scoreless innings, the Sooners answered with a two-run home run of their own in the sixth, as Ricketts' hit scored Jessica Shults from first base to tie the game. However, in the bottom frame, Razey took a shot beyond the fence for what proved to be the game-winning run.
The Bulldogs return home for a weekday game, as they welcome Gardner-Webb on February 29 at 6:30 p.m.
