ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer freshmen Marion Crowder and Gabby Seiler have been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshmen Top 100 list released Monday. The duo helped the Bulldogs to a 12-7-1 overall record and a place in the 2013 SEC Tournament quarterfinals in their first season at UGA.
Crowder came in at No. 14 on the list of the top 100 rookies in the nation, while Seiler followed at No. 34. Crowder’s honor comes after she was named to the site’s Freshmen Best XI second team last week. Both players were included on the midseason list back in October.
Crowder, a native of Madison, Miss., turned in a standout freshman campaign in which she started 19 of 20 games on the attack and led the Bulldogs with 11 goals and one assist for 23 points. Her goal tally left her just one shy of the school’s single-season freshman record, while her seven game-winning goals in a season rank second all-time among all players. Crowder was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Sept. 16 after her four-goal performance vs. the College of Charleston, while that week she also garnered College Sports Madness SEC Player of the Week and National Offensive Player of the Week accolades. She ended her rookie season by earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors and was named second team All-South Region.
Seiler emerged as a dependable midfielder for Georgia her freshman season, starting all 20 games and posting one goal and two assists for four points – with her one goal serving as the game-winner in overtime vs. Jacksonville on Sept. 6. The Peachtree City native also aided a Bulldog defense that recorded 11 shutouts this season and kept opponents to a 1.08 goals-per-game average.
Crowder and Seiler are among the six returning starters for Georgia in 2014.
