ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer freshman Marion Crowder has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshmen Best XI second team, it was announced Thursday.
The Best XI teams are comprised of 33 upperclassmen and 22 freshmen in recognition of their outstanding performances in 2013.
Crowder turned in a standout freshman campaign, starting 19 of 20 games on the attack and leading the squad with 11 goals and one assist for 23 points. Her goal tally left her just one shy of the school’s single-season freshman record, while her seven game-winning goals in a season rank second all-time among all players. The Madison, Miss., native scored four times vs. the College of Charleston on Sept. 15, becoming just the second Georgia player in history to accomplish that feat in a game – the first since 2003 – and the first freshman to do so.
She was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Sept. 16 after her performance vs. the Cougars, while that week she also garnered College Sports Madness SEC Player of the Week and National Offensive Player of the Week accolades. She was previously honored by Top Drawer Soccer as the No. 9 freshman in the nation on its mid-season list. She ended her first season in the red and black by earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors and was named second team All-South Region.
Crowder is one of six returning starters for Georgia in 2014.
