ATHENS, Ga. ---- Sophomore defender Devon Fry came to Georgia prepared with years of success from her high school and club career. The Northgate high school starter and three-time MVP was named a 2009 ESPNRISE All-America team honorable mention. She was a member of countless championship club teams, including the 2010 Southern Regional Champions and Georgia State Cup Champions. She was also a contributor on the 2004, 2006 and 2007 Atlanta Cup Championship team. The Newnan, Ga., native saw her first career action as a Bulldog in 2011, coming of the bench to play against Furman in Georgia’s 3-1 victory. Fry talks about how she helped to push her team through the 2011 season and shares how much it means to her to be at Georgia in this edition of Bulldog Q&A.
Q: How do you feel about the 2011 season?
A: I think at the beginning of the season we started off on the wrong foot with two losses, but we proved to our coaches, fans, and ourselves that we can do anything. We ended the 2011 season feeling like we did everything we could.
Q: If you weren’t playing soccer, what other sport would you want to play?
A: Volleyball seems like it would be a fun sport!
Q: What’s your favorite part about playing soccer?
A: My favorite part about playing soccer is being around my best friends 24/7.
Q: Why did you choose to play for UGA?
A: I loved the campus and I thought it was beautiful. I also felt like I could see myself being apart of this team when I came on my visits.
Q: What are your personal goals for next season?
A: I want to give everything I have at every practice and do everything I can to make my teammates and myself better.
Q: Why did you start playing soccer?
A: I played softball first, but I had too much energy for that sport so my parents signed me up for soccer so that I could run around.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: Buffalo Wings.
Q: What’s your favorite movie?
A: Sweet Home Alabama.
Q: What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?
A: I'm double jointed in my elbows and can rotate my arm all the way around.
Q: What are two words that you would use to describe yourself, on the field or off the field?
A: Determined and encouraging.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a Georgia Bulldog?
A: Having family members as alumni and huge UGA fans, it has meant a lot to me to be a part of something that so many people love and want to be a part of.
