Georgia Soccer Q&A: Freshman Madison Meyers

ATHENS, Ga. ---- Freshman Madison Meyers is a member of the notable 2011 Georgia soccer recruiting class. She is also one of three freshman Bulldog soccer players hailing from Colorado along with Bella Hartley and Jenna Owens, who all played together on the Real Colorado club team. Although she ran into an unfortunate stress fracture in her foot at the beginning of the season, Meyers, also known as “Goo” by her family and teammates, has returned to make an impact on the team in SEC play. Now on their way to compete for an SEC title in Orange Beach, Ala., Meyers is looking to gain momentum and help her team make it to the NCAA Tournament. She shares her thoughts on the season and how she stays grounded in this edition of Georgia Soccer Q&A.
Q: How do you feel about the 2011 season?
A: Being injured, it’s been a little rocky for me. But, as a whole I feel like we’ve been getting a lot better.
Q: What do you think it’s going to take to make it to the NCAA Tournament?
A: I think it is definitely going to take a lot of hard work as a team and being able to be mentally strong.
Q: Where did your nickname “Goo” come from?
A: When I was a baby, when I was first born, my parents told me I looked like Mr. Magoo so I’ve been called that since I was a baby.
Q: If you weren’t playing soccer, what other sport would you want to play?
A: Probably track. I ran in high school.
Q: What’s your favorite part about playing soccer?
A: It gets my mind off things; it’s kind of my getaway.
Q: Why did you choose to play for UGA?
A: I grew up down here in Norcross, Ga. I also came because of the coaches.
Q: What are your personal goals for this season?
A: To get fully recovered from my injury and slowly work back to playing more.
Q: Why did you start playing soccer?
A: When I was four because my parents threw me into and it and it just became my life.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: Probably Italian food.
Q: What’s your favorite movie?
A: The Hangover.
Q: What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?
A: I am a big yoga person; I do yoga a lot. Bikram, the hot yoga, in particular. They up the temperature to 102 degrees and sometimes I even do it with weights.
Q: What are two words that you would use to describe yourself, on the field or off the field?
A: Passionate and determined.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a Georgia Bulldog?
A: It’s just a blessing to me.
Madison Meyers is a freshman forward for Georgia Soccer. She and the Bulldogs will play their final regular season game at home against the Tennessee Volunteers on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. Live video coverage will be available on Georgiadogs.com while it will also air on local radio 1340 WGAU.
