ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer midfielder Laura Eddy has been named to the CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll, the national site announced Tuesday afternoon.
Eddy helped the Bulldogs to a 2-0 shutout win over previously unbeaten and No. 17/8 ranked South Carolina in Friday night’s Southeastern Conference opener, with Georgia tallying two of only three goals allowed by the Gamecocks all season. Georgia (8-1, 1-0) is off to its best nine-game start in program history, tied with both the 1997 and 2007 squads for that distinction.
The redshirt senior from Atlanta scored Georgia’s second goal of the night on Friday in the 32nd minute of play, firing inside the left post to score for the first time since Oct. 17, 2010 – a total of 1,069 days – after sitting out the last two seasons with ACL injuries. In addition, Eddy’s strong midfield play helped the Bulldogs keep South Carolina off the board for just the second time all season and secure the team’s league-leading seventh shutout of the year.
Eddy and the Bulldogs are headed for their first SEC road trip – preparing to take on Missouri on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET and Kentucky on Sunday at 6 p.m. The Sunday game will be televised regionally on CSS.
