ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer players Louise Hogrell and Gabby Seiler received weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference for the first week of the 2014 season, with Hogrell named the Freshman of the Week and Seiler the Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
It is the first career SEC weekly honor for both players.
The duo helped Georgia to a 1-0-1 start with a 3-0 win over UNC Greensboro on Sunday and a 1-1 tie vs. Ole Miss on Friday night in the first in-season live event to be televised on the SEC Network.
Hogrell picked up nine combined saves in her first two outings in goal for Georgia, collecting the shutout vs. UNCG. The Asa, Sweden, native kept the Spartans off the board on Sunday despite five of UNCG’s six total shots going on goal. Through her first two games, she is allowing a mere 0.45 goals per game with a save percentage of 0.900.
Seiler came away with five points on the weekend on the strength of two goals and one assist, already surpassing her point total from the entire 2013 season (four). Her first-half goal against the Rebels on Friday in Oxford put Georgia on top before Ole Miss eventually equalized. On Sunday, her penalty-kick goal in the second half gave Georgia a 2-0 lead on its way the 3-0 victory. The Peachtree City native also tacked on an assist on Marion Crowder’s game-winner earlier in the half vs. UNCG.
The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend, heading west to take on Long Beach State and Cal State-Fullerton Aug. 29-31. Georgiadogs.com will offer live audio and blog coverage for both contests.
