ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia soccer team was selected to finish third in the competitive SEC Eastern Division in the 2011 Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Thursday by the league office.

Points were compiled on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division, though each coach was not allowed to vote for his or her own team. Each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion.

Florida was the unanimous choice to win the division as well as the overall Southeastern Conference title, while South Carolina narrowly edged Georgia for the No. 2 spot in the East as the teams garnered 51 and 48 points, respectively. Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky took the next three spots. Auburn was picked to win the West, followed by LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi State.

Georgia opens the 2011 season tomorrow, Aug. 19, on the road at Furman, with conference play set to begin Sept. 23. The 2011 SEC Tournament will be held Nov. 2-6 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.
