OVERLAND PARK, Kansas --- Five members of the Georgia soccer team captured the U-19 US Youth Soccer national championship with their North Atlanta Soccer Association (NASA) Elite II club team Sunday, as the squad defeated the So Cal Blues-Dido by a 2-1 score in overtime at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.

Both NASA goals came via incoming Georgia freshmen, with Kelsey Nix and Caroline Waters both getting on the board in extra time. It was the team’s third appearance in the final and first victory in their final attempt at the title before parting ways for college soccer. Joining Nix and Waters on the championship squad were rising sophomores Emma Sonnett and Bria Washington and redshirt freshman Cara Smith.

The five Bulldogs will rejoin their UGA teammates as the squad opens preseason camp on Mon., Aug. 5 at the Turner Soccer Complex. Georgia opens the 2013 season with an exhibition scrimmage vs. The Citadel on Fri., Aug. 16 a 7 p.m. in Athens.
