ATHENS, Ga. --- Four members of the Georgia soccer team have been named to the third annual Southeastern Conference Soccer Preseason Watch List, the league office announced Wednesday. Since 2011, the SEC has released a watch list in lieu of announcing preseason all-conference teams.
The senior foursome of defenders Torri Allen and Nikki Hill and midfielders Laura Eddy and Nicole Locandro join players from each of the other 13 SEC teams on the list. Hill is singled out for the second straight season.
Allen is a returning All-SEC and All-South Region defender, coming off a junior campaign in which the Stafford, Va., native started all 20 games and logged the second-most minutes among field players with 1,811. She was a key component of the Bulldog defense that limited opponents to 1.10 goals per game in 2012 with six shutouts.
Hill – a Scottsdale, Ariz., product – also started all 20 games last season, leading Georgia field players in minutes with 1,842. In addition to joining Allen as an anchor on the back line, she tallied one goal and added two assists for four points on the offensive end.
Eddy returns to the field after missing the previous two seasons with ACL injuries. The Atlanta native and former SEC Freshman of the Year most recently played in 2010, when she saw action in all 21 games and started 19 times for Georgia. She scored two goals and tallied three assists for seven points, good for fifth-best on the team.
Locandro returns as the squad’s top offensive player from a year ago, as she paced the Bulldogs with four goals and three assists for 11 points. The Marietta native scored two goals in a game vs. both LSU and Mississippi State in 2012, and was 2-for-2 on penalty kick opportunities.
Georgia opens the 2013 campaign on Fri., Aug. 16 with a 7 p.m. home exhibition vs. The Citadel. The Bulldogs are then on the road for the first regular-season contests as the squad travels to the Lone Star State to meet Texas and Houston Aug. 23-25.
