ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer freshman midfielder Becca Rasmussen has been called in to the upcoming U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team camp, the organization has announced. Rasmussen was one of 25 players invited by head coach Michelle French, with the team set to practice at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., April 13-20.
It will serve as the squad’s third-to-last domestic camp before the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, slated for Aug. 5-24 in Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal and Toronto, Canada.
The U-20s will play two scrimmages on Sat., April 19, against college teams – taking on UCLA at 3:30 p.m. ET followed by USC at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Rasmussen has previous national team camp experience at every level from U-14 through U-18, most recently joining the U-18s at the 10 Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain, last month. In that event, the Golden, Colo., native scored a goal and eventually earned a starting role after subbing into the team’s first game. Rasmussen is the No. 31-ranked player in the 2014 class according to TopDrawerSoccer.com, and was named a Youth All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 2013.
An early enrollee, Rasmussen is already on campus and competing with the Georgia team during its spring campaign. She has tallied six assists on the spring to pace the Bulldogs, who are currently 3-2 with two games remaining in the exhibition season.
