Sophomore Alexa Newfield - who led the team with a school-record 40 points - was named both Offensive and Overall MVP.

ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia soccer team celebrated the accomplishments of the 2011 season on Sun., Jan. 22 when it held its annual awards banquet. Highlighting the afternoon’s festivities was a motivational speech by special guest Suzanne Yoculan – who led the Georgia gymnastics team to a record 10 NCAA championships prior to her retirement in 2009.
On the afternoon, head coach Steve Holeman and his staff handed out several awards voted on by players and coaches, which included the following:
Team MVP: Alexa Newfield
Offensive MVP: Alexa Newfield
Defensive MVP: Bailey Powell
Rookie of the Year: Jenna Owens
Heart & Soul: Jamie Pollock
Most Improved: Carli Shultis
Sportsmanship: Jenna Buckley
Coaches' Award: Jamie Pollock
Academic Achievement: Ashley Baker
Booster of the Year: Tim Pollock
Additionally, Holeman recognized the team’s many accomplishments from throughout the year, including a 13-win season, an NCAA Tournament at-large bid and a trip to the second round, a slew of individual performance awards including a program record four All-South Region selections, and a ninth consecutive National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) team academic award.
The three departing seniors – Pollock, Powell, and Ashley Miller – were also thanked for their contributions to the program. The 2011 senior class won 50 games in its four years and reached three national tournaments and four SEC tournaments.
The Georgia soccer team is set to begin spring play in February.
