Steve Nugent has spent three years on the Georgia coaching staff and concentrates on training the Bulldog goalkeepers, recruiting, academics, and team travel.

Nugent has more than 20 years of coaching experience at the college, club, ODP, and high school levels. Prior to joining the staff at UGA, he served as the High School age director and recruiting coordinator for Team Boca in Boca Raton, Fla.

Nugent's work with Georgia's goalkeepers in 2008 and 2009 helped Michelle Betos record 117 saves, second most in a single season. Betos also recorded a 0.61 goals against average during SEC play and led the league in shutouts and wins. In 2010 he guided returner Ashley Baker and two freshmen keepers Caitlin Woody and Callie Corbin Langford. Nugent's work with Baker helped the Georgia native post four straight shutouts during the season and go 561 minutes without allowing a goal, finishing the campaign second in the SEC in save percentage (0.836) and tied for second in clean sheets with nine.

From 1989 to 2000 and then again from 2002 to 2008, Nugent was a driving force behind Team Boca's girls program and one of the original staff coaches. Nugent led the 88/89 White team to State Championship appearances at U14, U15, U16, and U18 winning the championship at U15. Nugent coached the 90/91 White team that claimed tournament titles at the Raleigh Shootout, Orange Classic and the 2007 Disney Showcase. From 1996 to 2003, he coached the 1985 team to 8 State Championship appearances winning the title an unprecedented 7 times (an FYSA record).

Since 1989, Nugent has coached 12 State Championship teams and has taken 16 teams to the final four and has worked with hundreds of young girls reach their goal of playing high level college soccer and ultimately achieving their educational goals. Many of the Team Boca players over the years have represented both FYSA on the ODP state teams and over 40 different girls have been invited into the Region III ODP player pool. Team Boca has had 11 players reach the ultimate goal of playing for their respective National Team. Fifteen different players have represented the youth national teams since 1990.

In January 2006, Nugent received the prestigious honor of being selected as the NSCAA Southern Region Coach of the Year. He was chosen amongst his peers for his continued success on and off the field with Team Boca. The criteria used in selecting Steve Nugent was "the overall strength of his resume along with the fact that he is extremely well respected by his coaching peers" said Kathy Zolad, who is the NSCAA Selection Committee Chairperson, as well as a current NSCAA Board Member. The NSCAA also awarded Nugent with his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma with a Distinguished Passing grade. Nugent has been recognized by the City of Boca Raton on six occasions for outstanding commitment to the youth of Boca Raton through soccer.

Nugent's collegiate experience includes both NAIA and NCAA teams. During the 2000-2001 college seasons, Nugent spent time at FSU as a graduate assistant coach and was previously the lead assistant at Rice University under Head Coach Chris Huston. Nugent worked with Huston at Rice and started the women's program from scratch helping to recruit the first class of 14 freshmen in 2001, worked on team sponsorship, prepared on-field coaching, and was the recruiting coordinator. From 1994-1996, he was a volunteer assistant coach at Lynn University where the women won the 1995 NAIA National Championship and were the 1996 runner up.

Upon returning to Team Boca in 2002 he was appointed the Director of Coaching at Team Boca. With the help of strong base of volunteers and committed staff, Team Boca was able to reach new heights immediately. Since 2002 Team Boca has put more teams in the FYSA Final Four than any other club. In 2004, the club enjoyed the most success ever for a girls program in Florida sending six teams to the final four. That year Team Boca took home three state titles (U15, U18, and U19) and all three teams represented Florida at Southern Regionals in Austin, Texas. Nugent's teams have been recognized on two occasions with the Fair Play Award at the USYSA Region III tournament, have won many prestigious tournaments throughout the U.S. including Raleigh, Orange Classic, Shootout, and the Disney Showcase.
Nugent has spent the better part of 19 years as both a director and staff member at camps throughout the U.S. Nugent holds the USSF B License, KNVB Dutch coaching certificate, NSCAA Level I and Level II Goalkeeping license, the USYS Youth National Coaching License, and the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.

A native of Boston, Mass., Nugent earned his bachelor's degree in history from Florida Atlantic University in 1996. He is married to the former Janna Satz of Miami, Fla., and they three sons, Trevor, Brady, and Connor.
