ATHENS-----University of Georgia senior gymnast Shayla Worley was recently named to the UGA Terry College of Business  “Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges.

A total of 14 Terry students were selected, including five finance majors. In addition to Worley, the other four finance majors were Sadio Doumbia, Jackson Govatos, Michael Heider and Matthew Saylor.  The group will be recognized at the Terry College of Business Honors Day ceremony in April 2013.

“It's an honor to be in Terry College, one of the finest business schools in the country," Worley said. "To be recognized as one of the best amongst the best is a great accomplishment and is representative of the culture and the excellence the entire gymnastics team strives for on a daily basis.”

Worley has been named Scholastic All-America by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) in each of the last three years, and she is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. A native of Orlando, Fla., Worley earned All-America honors on the balance beam in 2012.

"We are so proud of Shayla,” said UGA coach Danna Durante. “She truly embodies the term student-athlete; she works incredibly hard in both the classroom and the gym and this is a well-deserved honor. It's very exciting to see her earn such an esteemed award after years of focus and dedication to her academics. We are extremely proud of the way she represents the University of Georgia and the Gym Dog program."

Also, former Gym Dog Kat Ding was recently named the recipient of the Gwinnett Sports Commission Prestige Award. Ding has recently worked with Gwinnett Sports Commission to promote youth sports and Gwinnett as a sports event destination.

Ding was the 2012 NCAA champion on the uneven bars and floor exercise, becoming just the second gymnast in NCAA history to repeat as the national champion on bars. The Sparks, Nev., native is also the sixth gymnast in Georgia’s storied history to win more than one national title in the same year and the first to win back-to-back crowns on an individual event since 1992-93.
